Raspberry buns by Kidscook.ie

225 gms self-raising flour
90 gms caster sugar
110 gms butter
1 egg
1 tablespoon of milk
Some raspberry jam (about a tablespoon)

  • Ask an adult to preheat the oven to 190 degrees
  • Put the flour and sugar in a bowl and mix
  • Add the butter, cover in flour and break into little pieces. Rub the little pieces with your fingertips into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs
  • Make a hole in the centre of the mixture and add the egg and the milk. Mix with a wooden spoon until there is no dry mixture left and it has come together into a soft dough. If you think it is still too dry, add another tablespoon of milk
  • Take pieces of the dough and roll into balls (about the size of a golf ball). Place on a tray spaced apart from each other. You will have about 12 buns
  • Stick your finger into each the middle of each ball to make a hole but don’t go through to the bottom
  • Using a teaspoon, put a small blob of jam into each hole
  • Ask an adult to put the tray into the oven. Bake for 10/15 minutes or until golden brown
  • Be careful and don’t touch the jam as it is boiling hot when it comes out of the oven. Leave to cool for a few minutes on the tray and then put on a cooling rack
