Community rallies for Cara

Cara from Co. Galway was rushed to Temple Street last September after falling ill. It was a frightening time for her family as a lumbar puncture showed that she had meningitis.

Cara had a difficult road ahead – she underwent surgery to deal with fluid on her brain and a biopsy, which revealed that she had TB meningitis. This resulted in the loss of power in her left leg and Cara had to learn to walk again with the help of Temple Street’s physiotherapists.

Mum Laura says, “Heartfelt thanks to Darach Crimmins. We wouldn’t have our daughter with us today only for him and his team – his quick thinking saved Cara’s life. He would come to talk to us before each surgery and back again when he finished. We knew she was always in safe hands when she went with him.”

And Cara’s entire community of Woodford came together to help her say thank you to Temple Street and raised a whopping €20,230.49 for our hospital by holding a whole range of events – from a non-uniform day to a table quiz! The funds will go to support neurology & St. Gabriel’s Ward. Huge thanks to everyone who got involved!
