Watch Sonny Murphy’s powerful story in the latest video of Temple Street Foundation’s ‘Living Proof’ series, which tells the real-life stories of little patients and their families in CHI at Temple Street, who have benefitted from your support and donations.
In the third episode of the series, which was filmed before social distancing, we meet the always smiling Sonny Murphy. Sonny was born with a number of serious health issues – including Spina Bifida and Chiari II, which left his vocal cord paralysed and needing a tracheostomy to help him breathe. Sonny was immediately rushed to the hospital’s ICU, where he spent his first 8 months in Temple Street. In 2018, Sonny’s tracheostomy was removed, and he has been thriving ever since.
Sonny’s Mum Karen says,
“Sonny is doing great. He is learning numbers, songs & how to speak. He is a happy, healthy boy all thanks to Temple Street. We will hopefully get to visit everyone at Temple Street again soon.”
Chief Executive of Temple Street Foundation, which is part of the Children’s Health Foundation, Denise Fitzgerald says,
“We feel incredibly privileged to have gotten to know Sonny and his family over the last few years, and we are beyond proud to be a part of their journey. We would like to extend our greatest thanks to Sonny’s parents – Karen and Paul – for sharing their family’s story with us, and with our supporters for the Living Proof series. Sonny is living proof that your donation matters.
Raising awareness for our hospitals and the world class care the staff provide on a day-to-day basis is our number one priority. With your support, the hospital can continue to provide this care to those children who need it most. From vital, life-saving equipment to ground-breaking research – your donations have the power to change little lives for the better.”
