Drogheda Triathlon Club members are all super fit and when a fellow club member needs support they’re not slow to rally around!
Club member Marcas Morrison became a father for the first time in late 2014, while this was a joyous occasion, unfortunately for Marcas and his partner Mary Foley, their daughter Faye was born with a bowel condition which meant she was unable to process her food.
Faye spent six weeks in Temple Street Hospital where she underwent a lifesaving operation. During this anxious time Marcas and Mary were really impressed with the extremely high level of care and support they they and their daughter received. Thankfully Faye has now made a full recovery and is now leading the life of any busy and active toddler.
To show his appreciation for the care and support shown by the staff in Temple Street, Marcas and other DTC members completed the gruelling Dublin Half Ironman race on August 9th to raise funds for the hospital, raising a huge €8000.
The race consisted of a 1.9km swim in Dun Laoghaire Harbour followed by a 90km cycle through Dublin city and into the Meath and Kildare countryside before finishing up with a 21km (half marathon) run around the Pheonix Park. No mean feat even for the fittest person – thanks guys for your amazing support!
