9th December 2009The Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge
-Documentary on the lifesaving fundraising challenge of a lifetime!
On September 28th 2008, over one hundred Irish Route 66 Motorcyclists left Ireland to embark on the fourth bi-annual Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge in aid of Temple Street Children's University Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. On Monday the 14th December at 8pm, a fly on the wall documentary, produced by Paul Tully, Fuel TV, will air on TG4 which captures the essence of what this challenge means to both the bikers who take part and the sick children who benefit from their generosity. The programme is also repeated on TG4 on Saturday the 19th December 2009 at 10:45am.
The Irish 66ers traveled down America's Mother Road to help raise funds to build a dedicated Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Unit for the Irish Hospital. The route saw the fundraising bikers travel over 2,448 historical kilometers in total finishing up at Santa Monica Pier, LA. Since the birth of the The Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge, the dedication of the Irish 66ers has enabled them to raise over €2M for the Hospital.
Angi McNulty, Special Events Manager and Challenge Director said "Our Irish 66ers are truly amazing individuals who represent, the fantastic children of Temple Street Children's University Hospital, the magnificent staff who care for them and the many people who support them in their fundraising for this very special hospital. The patients are their Biker Buddies and on their behalf the Irish 66′ers have so far raised €2 million euro on our four, previous Challenges. With our 5th just over a year away we look forward to flying a wonderful Temple Street Flag in Ireland and the USA in 2010."
