2013 project

Our big project for 2013 is to redevelop one of our oldest and busiest wards. St Joseph's, affectionately known to many as Top Flat, is essentially the heart of our special hospital. It’s the ward where children with serious injuries are admitted through Accident and Emergency; the ward where children suffering from life-limiting illnesses such as cystic fibrosis often call home; and it’s the ward where children under-going same day procedures are admitted while their anxious parents wait in the wings.

Your helping hand will allow us to completely transform what is currently a cramped and outdated space with 3 toilets between 22 children and no parent facilities into something extraordinary.

With your support we can…

•           Install 4 isolation cubicles with en-suite facilities

•           Provide a treatment room, a parents room and school room for those patients and siblings who are in our care for long periods of time

•           Provide 2 wards with 2 beds and 3 multi bedded wards, all with en-suite facilities

•           Provide a space for parents to sleep comfortably by their child’s bed

The Tesco Ireland Charity of the Year 2007 Special Project - The St Michael's B Ward

Through the TESCO Charity of the Year campaign and the fantastic support of Tesco staff and customers we were able to fund the redevelopment of the St Michaels ‘B' Ward at Temple Street Children's University Hospital. This ward cares for neo-natal patients, premature babies along with babies and infants under the age of 18 months. These infants may have long-term debilitating illnesses, or be in need of surgical and/or medical care.

Until recently the unit consisted of 13 small cubicles, sized 8ftx 7ft which was not the optimum environment for patients, parents and staff alike. Before the redevelopment large pieces of technical equipment restricted the space available in each cubicle for treatment. When the medical team entered the cubicle, in most cases the parents had to leave their child to allow for much needed treatment to take place. As you can imagine, this placed undue strain on already concerned and stressed parents.

'Home away from Home' project for families of sick children a huge success

your_homeThe Sherry FitzGerald "Your Home Away From Home" project was launched in early 2006 to assist the Hospital in purchasing a house on Fontenroy Street in Dublin 7 for use as parent's accommodation. We are delighted to announce that work on the house is complete and the house will now provide, for the first time in Temple Street's long and distinguished history, a home away from home for families from outside Dublin whose children are attending Temple Street, often with very serious illnesses.
